This week, Manhattan’s four-legged residents have been doggedly testing their surfing skills on a mobile wave machine created by American Wave Machines (AWM).

The event, run by the Lucy Pet Foundation, is intended as a fun way to highlight the serious problem of unwanted pets.

AWM created the mobile machine last year in response to a request from the Lucy Pet Foundation’s founder, Joey Herrick.

The charity neuters thousands of animals on its tours around the US in an attempt to stem the tide of unwanted pets being put down every year.

The surfing dog events have successfully raised awareness and proved a huge hit with dogs and their owners alike.

AWM is the world’s leading wave pool, surf park and wave technology company dedicated to creating authentic surf experiences.

The company’s SurfStream® and PerfectSwell® solutions deliver a range of waves suitable for all  skill levels, from beginners (and dogs!) to pro’s. Since 2007 over 3, 000, 000 surf sessions have been enjoyed at American Wave Machines locations across the globe.
