Baha Mar’s $300 million water park and entertainment development, Baha Mar Bay, is still on schedule to complete in 2021, despite the enforced construction suspension over COVID-19.
Baha Mar president Graeme Davis told The Tribune: “We have made the difficult decision to temporarily suspend all operations, including construction on property.
“As health, safety and wellbeing of our associates and Baha Mar guests is of utmost importance, the construction work will resume once it is determined safe by the Ministry of Health to continue.
“The Baha Mar Bay development is scheduled to be completed in 2021,” added Davis.
Baha Mar Bay construction temporarily paused
As part of the Baha Mar Bay project, there will be significant renovations and enhancements to the Melia Nassau Beach Resort.
In addition, there will be luxury beachfront adventure experiences and developments at Long Cay, a private island.
There will also be upgrades and refurbishments at the Melia Hotel, and at restaurants, gyms, public areas, and meeting spaces.
Two activity centres for children will be constructed, and will include arts and crafts, theatre, virtual reality (VR) gaming, and more.

Long Cay will get enhancements to the beach areas, as well as a new extended pier, beach club, and F&B outlets.
Davis also said the company is “working hard to support our associates and their families during these challenging and uncertain times”.
On the reopening of Baha Mar, Davis said: “We are closely monitoring the situation around the world, and look forward with hope and anticipation to a time when we will welcome our guests and associates back to our property for the spectacular experiences that Baha Mar is known for around the world.
“Baha Mar is working with the Bahamian government, airlines and local partners to determine the re-opening date,” he continued.
Davis previously said the project would create 500 direct and 1,000 indirect jobs.
