Compagnie des Alpes (CdA) has given the green light for a waterpark at Bellewaerde animal/amusement park. Opening in spring 2019, it will be CdA’s second indoor waterpark in Belgium, along with Aqualibi at Walibi near Brussels.

Named simply Bellewaerde Aquapark, the €17 million project will span a 3,000 square-metre site formerly used for car parking. Family-friendly slides and attractions will be provided in an “oasis of greenery” in keeping with Bellewaerde’s existing park facilities. A lazy river will take visitors through a cave and numerous water effects. There will also a play zone and a pool just for kids, as well as an outdoor zone for use in summer. Parents will be able to relax in a wellness zone.

“Market research showed the potential to combine Bellewaerde with an indoor waterpark,” says the park’s general manager, Stefaan Lemey. “This confirms that our shareholder Compagnie Des Alpes believes in our site and strategy. The entire Bellewaerde team is very proud to realise this important project.”

Bellewaerde Aquapark represents Bellewaerde’s biggest investment ever. As well as adding to Belgian park’s bottom line, it is expected to create at least 10 new jobs.
