Dive Bahrain, the world’s largest underwater theme park, has officially opened. Diving enthusiasts can now enjoy the new diving experience and international attraction.
It comes after Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) confirmed the successful submersion of a 70-metre Boeing 747. This followed news that BTEA had completed the first phase of Dive Bahrain.
The 10,000-square-metre attraction is located off the coast of Bahrain, close to Bahrain International Airport.
The Boeing 747 is the largest aircraft ever to be deliberately submerged. It sits at approximately 20 metres deep and will foster new coral growth and provide a safe haven for marine life.

More items have been submerged alongside the plane, including a 900-square-metre traditional Bahraini pearl merchant’s house, artificial coral reefs, and other sculptures made from eco-friendly materials.
The eco-friendly park will also give researchers information and data on marine ecology and biology, and will increase environmental awareness on the importance of preserving marine life.
Before the official opening, Dive Bahrain was inspected by a group of diving professionals from registered dive centres.
The professional divers made sure that all safety requirements were fully met for a safe diving experience. Future phases for Dive Bahrain are in the works and could include reef balls, ships and sculptures.

Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism and Chairman of BTEA Board, HE Zayed bin Rashid Al Zayani, previously spoke about the project’s launch.
“We are proud to launch this unique eco-friendly project in partnership with local diving companies, the Supreme Council for Environment and the private sector,” he said.
“The new theme park will undoubtedly emerge as a global tourist attraction. The world-class project covers an extensive area, and will provide an unforgettable experience for both tourists and diving enthusiasts alike.”

Elsewhere, Central Pattana has launched Aquaria Phuket and Andasi – an aquarium with the world’s largest underwater restaurant and Asia’s first underwater bar.
