Cirque du Soleil to create a new show at Disney Springs

A brand new Cirque Du Soleil show will replace La Nouba at Disney Springs, drawing inspiration from the history of Disney animation.

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts and Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group have announced that a new show is in development. It marks the renewal of the long-lasting relationship between the innovative circus group and Disney. The new show will premiere at Disney Springs, the lakeside district at the heart of Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

The new show is a collaboration between Cirque du Soleil and Disney. It’s set to celebrate Disney’s legacy of highly crafted storytelling in Cirque du Soleil’s indomitable style.

“This long-standing relationship is built on mutual esteem and the success achieved by our two creative businesses throughout the past two decades with La Nouba,” said Tiffany Rende, Senior Vice President, Corporate Alliances and Operating Participants, The Walt Disney Corporation. “We look forward to our continued collaboration with Cirque du Soleil in developing this new show that will honour Disney animation’s rich history.”

Cirque du Soleil first came to Disney in 1998 with their ground-breaking show La Nouba. Since its première, more than 11 million guests have watched close to 9,000 shows. The show will close on December 31st 2017.

“We are incredibly inspired by Disney’s immense creative universe,” said Daniel Lamarre, President and CEO of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group. “We are convinced that bringing Disney’s magic to life on stage will touch audiences and bring them back to their childhood.”

When La Nouba celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2013, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse made a special appearance, the first time the Disney characters appeared in the show.

Cirque du Soleil was formed in Montreal, Canada in 1984. It was formed by two former street performers, Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste-Croix. At the time it was something quite new – focusing on a theatrical, character-driven style, and eschewing the use of animals. The group expanded rapidly and Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group is now a world leader in live entertainment. It has entertained over 180 million spectators with its productions presented in nearly 450 cities in 60 countries. Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group currently employs around 5,000 people (from nearly 50 countries around the world), of which 1,300 are artists.

Earlier this year Cirque du Soleil added The Blue Man Group to its portfolio:

The group is known for its exciting collaborations. Earlier this month it announced its partnership with the Thinkwell Group and the NFL to provide services for the new NFL Experience.
