Compagnie des Alpes has announced its acquisition of Familypark, the leading Austrian theme park.
The company closed the acquisition of 100% of the shares in Familypark, located in the tourist region of Neusiedl Lake, less than one hour from the centre of Vienna.
In 2018, Familypark welcomed 716,000 visitors, generating an income of €19.1m with EBITDA of €6.8m. The acquisition amount shows an enterprise value of €72.5m.
Dominique Marcel, Compagnie des Alpes chairman and CEO, said: “This acquisition is perfectly in line with the strategy that the group has deployed over several years in our parks. It will reinforce the geographical coverage of our very coherent park portfolio.
“We are, therefore, very pleased to welcome Familypark amongst our sites. In this context, the group will continue its efforts to seize value-creating acquisition opportunities.”
Familypark has development potential with 13 hectares of adjacent land reserves.
Snow dome in Shanghai
In December, Compagnie des Alpes announced progress on plans to build and operate a snow dome in the Shanghai region with Fosun.
Compagnie des Alpes first announced their intention to expand into China in 2016, particularly with the 2022 Winter Olympics being held in the country.
CDA announced an extra €8m investment into its leisure segment following strong results in the last fiscal year.
CDA’s leisure park portfolio includes the Walibi and Aqualibi brands, Park Asterix, Futuroscope and Grevin. Leisure Destination sales account for 40% of annual revenue. Sales rose by 4.3%, reaching €339.9m, driven by in an increase in spend per visitor of +3%. This was helped by a 1.3% growth in attendance, hitting a new record attendance of 8.8 million visits.
