Grand Palais Immersif is a subsidiary created by the Réunion des musées nationaux – Grand Palais, in partnership with the Banque des Territoires, on behalf of the French state within the framework of France 2030, and VINCI Immobilier.
We develop digital exhibitions alongside our partners that provide an artistic experience. These exhibitions aim to explain a movement, period in history, artist or work by offering a new viewpoint that is scientifically based and emotional.
The exhibitions combine immersive, interactive content alongside AV in a space that visitors can explore freely.
Location
The Grand Palais in Paris is currently undergoing renovations. When it reopens, it will hold the Grand Palais Immersif exhibitions in dedicated galleries. These exhibitions are currently shown at the Opéra national de Paris while the renovations are happening. From 2022, the exhibitions can also be found in other locations in France and abroad.
In the Opéra Bastille ‘modular hall’, visitors can find two Grand Palais Immersif exhibitions a year.
Exhibitions
The first exhibition that was held in 2022 at the Opéra Bastille was Venise Révélée. In coordination with the Musei di Civici in Venice and Iconem, guests were transported into the heart of Venice. Iconem used drones to construct a 3D model of the city, creating a virtual universe of Venice.
This digital material provided a new way of seeing Venice, allowing us to understand the structure of reality, both the set and the reverse of the set. Grand Palais Immersif therefore decided to design the exhibition to focus on revealing, through imagery, the internal structure that composes the architecture and the urban space. This allows visitors to understand Venice in its technical, structural, scenographic and theatrical dimensions.
The exhibition was structured around four chapters:
- The Lagoon
- The Great Canal
- Saint Marc’s Square and the Doges’ Palace, Places of Power
- Venice, a City in Transformation, a City Always in the Making.
Furthermore, the exhibition provides interactive walks in 15th-century Venice. This was created by Ubisoft from models of the Assassin’s Creed II video game.
The current exhibition is Eternal Mucha which is running from March 22, 2023 to November 5, 2023. This is an exhibition about one of the most famous artists in Europe at the turn of the 20th century, Alphonse Mucha. He was a key figure of the Art Nouveau and invented an original style of graphic art., known as the ‘Mucha Style’.
This exhibition tells the story of the artist in three acts; as a master of the poster in Paris; his involvement in the Universal Exhibition in Paris; and the presentation of his monumental works.
It also explores his enduring influence, from the pacifist ‘Flower Power’ movement of the sixties to Japenese manga and even tattoo art.
Guests can experience Mucha’s work and influences in a unique way as the immersive exhibition uses advance projection technologies within captivating scenography. TechnicoFlor has created an olfactory world, immersing the visitor through all the senses.
