Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is getting a resort-wide makeover with enhancements to guest rooms inspired by Walt Disney Animation Studios’ popular film Moana (2016).

Walt Disney World Resort previously confirmed that the Polynesian Village Resort’s reopening was delayed through summer 2021.

In a statement issued to travel agents, Disney said it was “modifying the reopening date for Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort which will reopen next summer”.

Disney said that the schedule adjustment will allow it “to complete some refurbishment work” at the resort’s hotel, including “enhancements to the Great Ceremonial House and guest rooms”.

“We expect work to begin in early October and look forward to sharing more about these changes in the future,” the company added.

The refurbishment was confirmed to Orlando Sentinel, with a Disney World spokesperson revealing that the rooms will feature details, patterns and textures from Moana.

The makeover will also reportedly be inspired by the fictional island of Montunui from Moana, as well as the Pacific Ocean.

Earlier this year, the Polynesian Village Resort debuted new carpeting at the ‘Ohana restaurant featuring characters from Moana, as well as Polynesian-inspired design.

Walt Disney World started a phased reopening of its resort hotels in June, although several hotels in its portfolio are yet to reopen.

Disney’s Grand Floridian is currently set to reopen on September 21, followed by Disney’s Coronado Springs on October 14 and Disney’s Art of Animation on November 1.

Meanwhile, Epcot will soon feature the first attraction based on Moana, called ‘Journey of Water’, where guests can interact with magical, living water in a beautiful setting.

Disneyland Resort is yet to reopen, but president Ken Potrock recently revealed that construction is underway on Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, now set to debut in California in 2023.
