Disneyland has shared a first look at the upcoming Magic Happens parade, teasing the daytime spectacular’s opening sequence. This features a float “made of ribbons of magic” for Mickey Mouse.
Magic Happens, debuting at Disneyland Park on February 28, boasts amazing floats and costumes, favourite characters, and a musical score co-composed by singer-songwriter Todrick Hall.
It includes floats inspired by Frozen 2, Moana, Coco, and Sleeping Beauty, as well as Cinderella, The Sword in the Stone and The Princess and the Frog.
Disney Parks Blog has shared more information about the parade’s ‘whimsical’ opening sequence, with Mickey Mouse leading the way in a new sorcerer costume.
First look at Disneyland’s spectacular Magic Happens
As the spectacular kicks off, Mickey Mouse will be seen gliding along on ‘glistening swirls of magic’ that emerge from a huge iridescent magical hat.
Opening the parade alongside Mickey are Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto and Chip ‘n’ Dale, as well as contemporary dancers known as ‘magic makers’.
Jordan Peterson, the show’s director, said the opening is “so special to us” because it is the first time that guests will see “all of the elements that have come together”.
“The first thing our guests will see will actually be Mickey riding on his float, which is a representation of the waves of magic that will occur throughout this parade,” he added.

“The float itself is made of ribbons of magic, and behind him you’ll see his iconic sorcerer hat. Mickey’s float is created by all of these unique paint colours that catch the light.
“They sparkle in beautiful ways underneath the sunlight ad they really represent the magic that is Magic Happens,” he said.
On the musical score, Peterson continued: “It is artistic, it’s joyous, it’s heartfelt, it’s fun and it really sets the tone for Magic Happens and the rest of the parade.”
