Disneyland Resort has found a solution to opening in part over Halloween, as it is launching the Backlot Premiere Shop at Disney California Adventure’s Stage 17.

The Backlot Premiere Shop is opening to guests of the Downtown Disney District, which has started a phased reopening of its shopping and dining experiences.

The Backlot Premiere Shop at Hollywood Land’s Stage 17, which is used for private events and character meet-and-greets, can be accessed via the Downtown Disney District.

An extension to the Downtown Disney District, the store is selling Halloween-themed merchandise from World of Disney and other select Disney shops.

This includes mini backpacks by Loungefly, candy-swirl Minnie Mouse ears, plush toys, mugs, trading pins, and glow ears and necklaces.

There will also be apparel and accessories from The Nightmare Before Christmas, Disney and Pixar’s Coco, and the Haunted Mansion.

In light of COVID-19, Downtown Disney District shops including World of Disney, Disney Home, The Disney Dress Shop, Marceline’s Confectionary and the Backlot Premiere Shop may use a mobile wait list to manage the number of guests shopping.

Disneyland is yet to open in California, and Walt Disney World Resort announced in mid-June that it was cancelling Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.

California has delayed plans to issue guidelines that would allow theme parks to reopen, and will work with theme park operators to finalise the reopening guidelines.

Universal Orlando recently expanded its schedule for Halloween, and will be offering its new haunted houses on additional dates, despite the cancellation of Halloween Horror Nights 2020.

Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Volcano Bay all hit limited capacity on September 19 as Universal Orlando launched the new haunted houses.

Halloween isn’t cancelled this year, but it does look a little different for the attractions industry, as the real-life horror of COVID-19 wreaks havoc on LBE in 2020.
