Ecsite looks ahead to #EcsiteOnline and announces keynote speaker

Ecsite, the European network of science centres and museums, has revealed more details ahead of Escite Day on 11 June.

Escite is pleased to announce more details ahead of Ecsite Day. This full day of virtual activities will take place on 11 June 2020 from 10 am to 5.30 pm CEST, with extra evening activities too. There are also several sessions taking place this month in the run up to the event including webinars and member exchange sessions.

The Ecsite Day will feature interactive experiences, expert insights, networking opportunities and more. It will be shown via Ecsite’s Crowdcast channel and attendees will be able to network through Ecsite’s soon-to-be-launched app as well as chatting on Twitter with the #EcsiteOnline hashtag.

Keynote speaker

The full programme will be launched on the Escite app next week. However, the network has already announced one of the highlights of the day, The Kavli Foundation keynote lecture which will be delivered by Nicolas Nova. Nova is a multidisciplinary researcher working at the intersection of anthropology, computer science and design. He is a co-founder of The Near Future Laboratory and Associate Professor at the Geneva School of Arts and Design.

The lecture, which is called Design Fictions and the Near Future, will introduce the concept of Design Fiction, an approach that focuses on the creation of tangible evidence of the existence of possible near futures.

Ecsite Webinars

Ecsite is also hosting a weekly webinar on Wednesdays at 3 pm CEST. This week’s session looks at equality, diversity and supporting an inclusive response to the pandemic.

It is curated by the Equity@Ecsite group, represented by Barbara Streicher, Executive Manager, Science Center Netzwerk Austria, Shaaron Leverment, Deputy CEO, The Association for Science and Discovery Centres and Amparo Leyman-Pino, Principal, Yellow Cow Consulting.

The speakers are Emily Dawson, University College London; Sharon Ament, Museum of London; David Jones, Centre for Life; Vanessa Mignan, TRACES and Sanne den Adel, VSC.

In addition to this, Ecsite is hosting weekly members exchange sessions on Tuesdays at 3 pm. CEST, allowing for peer discussions. This week’s session is ‘Re-opening our organisations: adapting exhibits and exhibitions’ with Raphaël Chanay, Universcience, Michel Junge, phaeno and Marie Couëdic, Ecsite.

The Ecsite Board made the decision to cancel Ecsite 2020, which was due to take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 11 – 13 June, due to COVID-19.
