Audio visual expert, Electrosonic, has designed, supplied and integrated the AV systems for Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: The Exhibition which has launched at Discovery Times Square, New York City.
Much of the highly interactive elements of the 12, 000ft² travelling exhibition rely on the AV magic created by Electrosonic such as Cinna’s Sketchbook where the book’s illustrations, text and video appear and disappear as visitors turn the pages.
“We’ve done a lot of travelling shows, ” commented Electrosonic Show Systems Engineer, Will Guest. “They are like enormous interactive puzzles. Putting the show together is a show in itself, but we have given the exhibition the tools and features to make installation easy.”
“Everything is designed and packaged for quick set up and tear down while maintaining simple and reliable connectivity, ” added Electrosonic Project Manager, Steve Calver.
The exhibition comprises seven galleries telling the story of Katniss’s epic journey from tribute to revolutionary. Lionsgate created the exhibition in close collaboration with Thinkwell Group and produced it in partnership with Imagine Exhibitions.
The preshow queue area features the Hall of Justice façade projection-mapped onto a three-dimensional set piece, which becomes the entry to the District 12 gallery.
Once inside, visitors interact with a stylized map where an “Easter egg” displays the hidden District 13 – in reality a 55-inch CyberTouch touchtable in a custom enclosure.
Other visitor highlights include making a short propaganda film in one of four specially-equipped kiosks and replicating a movie stunt as shown by a stunt coordinator.
“The Hunger Games: The Exhibition was a more complex travelling show than usual, but it came together quickly thanks to all the participants. It was a fun, creative show to work on, ” said Guest.
The Hunger Games: The Exhibition will have a six-month run at Discovery Times Square before moving to San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts in February 2016.
