Disney has announced that EPCOT‘s Spaceship Earth will be closing for an extended refurbishment and renovation in May 2020. This will be Spaceship Earth’s most ambitious update since it opened at Walt Disney World Resort

The reimagining of the iconic attraction starts on May 26. It is part of the historic transformation currently underway at EPCOT.

Disney first revealed plans for the revamp at the D23 Expo in 2019. The company has not confirmed when Spaceship Earth will reopen.

The next iteration of Spaceship Earth will focus on the story of humanity, bringing to life the journey from prehistoric humans to today. It will be updated and feature new scenes to tell the story of our human experience.

Guests will see Egypt like never before, transformed through the power of light. Spaceship Earth will also get new narration, and guests will see how light plays a role in our human journey.

This will be Spaceship Earth’s fourth and most ambitious update since EPCOT opened at Walt Disney World Resort on October 1, 1982.

EPCOT is undergoing the biggest transformation of any theme park in Disney’s history. It will boast new rides and experiences, including the first attraction inspired by Mary Poppins.
