Event Network, which operates retail stores in cultural institutions throughout North America, has gone live with a mobile point-of-service (POS) solution from BTM Global.

The Oracle Retail Xstore POS was developed, implemented and validated by BTM in just 90 days. Event Network trialled the system on tablets at one of its largest events of the year. This provided several benefits.

Sales could be captured at any location within the event. The tablets also helped reduce wait times, giving staff more time to engage with guests and provide the best possible customer service.

BTM Global is a long-time Gold-level member of the Oracle Partner Network. Members of its team were on site to support the roll out and configure additional tablets as demand increased.

Oracle Retail Xstore POS is the perfect solution to meet the needs of Event Network’s partners and their guests, says Daniel Moen, the company’s director of retail systems. “The wonderful thing about the OracleRetail Xstore is that it brings the store to the customer with no limitations. The store can be offsite miles away, after a lecture for a book signing, or even on a flight deck.”

Event Network is already a leader in retail mobile point-of-service technology. Based in San Diego, California, the company operates gift shops in aquariums, zoos, botanical gardens, museums and other cultural attractions.

The company’s compact mobile POS tablets provide secure process transactions and assist with the lookup of item inventory. They can even be used when Wi-Fi or network connectivity is not available, such as at special events. Each PCI compliant tablet comes equipped with an integrated VeriFone E355 credit card device.

Multiple ways to pay

Event Network’s mobile POS devices currently accept Europay, Mastercard, Visa, Amex, Discover, UnionPay or chip card/smart card payments. In addition, Apple Pay, Google Wallet and tap-to-pay card payments can be processed too.

Each tablet prints to a hip mounted portable bluetooth receipt printer. This means operators can maintain the same experience as with a conventional POS, but in a wireless, clean, and easy to use design.

Each mobile POS is equipped with biometric readers, allowing employees to quickly and securely process transactions. The highest level of credit card protection is provided, to PCI v3.2.1 regulatory standards.
