Exploding Kittens expands IP to host live gaming convention Burning Cat

Exploding Kittens, a tabletop card game, is expanding its IP with a live gaming convention in 2020. The creators of the Burning Cat event hope to “reboot the idea of a convention”.

Burning Cat bills itself as “a con you attend if you want to have actual fun”, and will feature games, comedy, and creativity.

The Burning Cat website explains that it won’t be “a glorified shopping mall” like many conventions, where few people play actual games.

Burning Cat, therefore, is a place to watch and play games – whether they’re tabletop games, card games, or casual party games.

“Burning Cat is an event for people who are tired of screens and want to have fun face-to-face,” the website reads.

In the centre of the convention will be the life source of Burning Cat: The Ring. Inside The Ring, oversized games will be played, stunts performed, and new sports invented.

There will also be an actual Burning Cat with a countdown timer at her feet. When the convention ends, she will, apparently, implode and transform.

Although there will be a focus on playing games, there will be some guest speakers, including Matthew Inman of The Oatmeal, as well as other game designers, comedians, and cartoonists.

Monopoly Dreams in Hong Kong

Meanwhile, Monopoly, one of the world’s most popular games, will come to life as a new attraction called Monopoly Dreams – the first property opening in Hong Kong.

The experience will feature AR, hologram and 4D interactive technology. There will be attractions based on elements of the game, including the Bank, Water Supply, Jail, Title Deeds, Chance cards and Community Chest.

Burning Cat takes place on May 16 and May 17, 2020 at Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon.
