Miral to expand Abu Dhabi water park by 16,900 square metres

Miral has announced a major expansion to Abu Dhabi‘s Yas Waterworld, including 18 new rides and attractions.

The 16,900-square-metre expansion to Yas Waterworld, due to complete construction in 2025, includes an additional 3.3 kilometres of slide sections. The project is expected to increase visitor capacity at the park by 20 percent.

Upon completion, Yas Waterworld will feature more than 60 rides and experiences. New offerings include the UAE’s highest slide, and the GCC’s first amusement ride in a water park. The latter, part of a waterslide complex, boasts a 15-metre-high drop.

“This expansion marks another addition to our world-class attractions and experiences on Yas Island, and a testament to achieving our vision of positioning it as a top global destination for entertainment and leisure,” said Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi.

“We are proud to be contributing to the development of Abu Dhabi’s ecosystem and economic diversification, while further enhancing its global appeal as a tourism hub.”

Yas Waterworld, inspired UAE’s pearl-diving past, will introduce a new chapter called the Lost City, described as an exciting journey to find hidden treasures and secret passages.

Highlights in the expansion include a swim-up bar, a thrilling boat ride, racing and tube slides, family raft rides, and a duelling master blaster. Also, Miral will create smaller versions of the park’s most iconic rides for younger visitors.

These include a mini Boomerango and a mini Dawwama, which will be the region’s only children’s mini blaster fusion ride with two blaster sections and a thrilling rattler end section.

Opened in 2013, Yas Waterworld is joined on Yas Island by theme parks such as Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World and SeaWorld Abu Dhabi.

The latter, developed by Miral in partnership with SeaWorld, opened to the public in May. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of Miral, said the park is “unparalleled in the region and the world on every level”.
