Futuroscope’s second theme park, known as Futuroscope 2, is set to launch in 2025. Futuroscope will receive an investment of €304 million from the state to create a water park, two hotels and three attractions before 2025.

The Vienne Department Council has chosen the ambitious project, which was submitted by the Société Anonyme du Parc de Futuroscope (SAPF), for a new 30-year lease.

The lease is set to be signed by the end of September 2020, and will go into effect in January 2021.

It is hoped that the expansion and investment will increase the appeal of Futuroscope as a short-stay destination in France and Europe.

The current Futuroscope site will have an investment of €200 million over the next 10 years, carried out by SAPF. As part of this, there will be three major attractions between now and 2025.

In addition, outdoor facilities and green spaces will be renovated, and Futuroscope will welcome various new restaurant options.

Adjacent to Futuroscope, Futuroscope 2 will boast two themed hotels and an aqua park called Aquascope, with investments of €104 million carried out by a new company, Futur Resort.

Futuroscope is currently operated by SAPF, a company in which Compagnie des Alpes has a 45.55 percent equity stake.

Other equity partners include SEM Patrimoniale de la Vienne (38.73%), Banque des Territoires (14,27%), and SAPF (1.45%).

SEM Patrimoniale de la Vienne has expressed a desire to sell its 20 percent interest, with Compagnie des Alpes and Banque des Territoires each acquiring an additional 10 percent in SAPF.

Dominique Marcel, chairman and CEO of Compagnie des Alpes, said: “We are particularly delighted that this project is coming together today.

“With the Vienne Department and the Caisse des Dépôts, via the Banque des Territoires, we share the same vision for the future of Futuroscope and our ambition is to maintain and consolidate the position of Futuroscope among the most attractive parks in France.

“Despite the major crisis we are traversing, Compagnie des Alpes intends to durably pursue its ambitious investment strategy in order to develop the appeal of its sites for the benefit of its clients and all stakeholders in the regions and countries where it operates.”

Futuroscope reopened on June 13 with its newest attraction, Objectif Mars. The family-friendly ride cost nearly €20 million and is Futuroscope’s largest investment since opening.
