Galaxyland at West Edmonton Mall (WEM) and Hasbro have announced a licensing agreement to create the first Hasbro theme park in Canada – ‘Galaxyland powered by Hasbro’.

The theme park will be transformed with Hasbro brands, including My Little Pony, Mr Potato Head, Monopoly, G.I. Joe, Nerf, Play-Doh, Battleship, and Operation.

These will come to life in more than 25 rides, games and attractions. Galaxyland will also feature a Hasbro retail experience, as well as themed dining establishments.

“Galaxyland has been providing entertainment to locals and visitors from around the world for more than three decades, and we’re thrilled to bring a number of exciting rides and activities themed to many of Hasbro’s iconic brands,” said Matt Proulx, vice president of location-based entertainment at Hasbro.

“When Galaxyland powered by Hasbro officially opens, we’re sure that fans and families will get to experience their favorite brands like never before.”

Construction is set to start in December 2019, with the opening scheduled for winter 2020. Galaxyland will be open throughout the construction process.

“We are delighted to welcome Hasbro to Galaxyland,” said Danielle Woo, general manager of West Edmonton Mall.

“Both of our brands represent dynamic family fun and Galaxyland powered by Hasbro will combine our amazing rides and attractions with Hasbro’s loved and well-known brands to produce a first-class entertainment destination.”

Meanwhile, Hasbro and Selladoor Worldwide have announced plans to adapt Monopoly into an immersive live-action experience, opening in London in 2020.

Earlier this year, Entertainment One shareholders voted to approve the proposal for Hasbro to acquire eOne in a $4 billion (£3.3 billion) all-cash takeover.
