The Grand Texas Sports and Entertainment District in New Caney secured $20m in additional funding for a water park, adventure park and parking facility.
Three USDA Rural Development Business and Industry loans have been secured by Grand Texas. The development’s Big Rivers Waterpark is getting $10m while Gator Bayou Adventure Park and Trio Parking receive $5m each.
Big Rivers will feature a lazy river, play structure, wave pool and waterslides while Gator Bayou will have zip lines, challenge courses, nature trails, a seven-story free-fall tower, a petting zoo, a maze and more.
They will include educational aspects to help guests learn about Texas rivers and wildlife. Construction is already underway and it is anticipated they will open this summer.
Both parks will occupy 32 hectares on the 255-hectare site. Grand Texas has been in development since 2014 with Grand Texas RV Park and Speedsportz Racing Park already in operation.
The water park and adventure park, along with parking, are the next step in the project’s master plan, which also includes four hotels and an outlet shopping mall.
Monty Galland, CEO of Grand Texas, said: “Adding Big Rivers and Gator Bayou to the existing Speedsportz Racing Park and Grand Texas RV Resort will make Grand Texas one of the most exciting destinations in Houston.”
Once the water and adventure parks open, construction will start on the Grand Texas Theme Park and Grand Texas Sportsplex. The theme park is set to include five roller coasters alongside a range of other rides and live entertainment.
