Hill International Wins Contract to Project Manage New Saadiyat Island Resort Development, Abu Dhabi

Expert in construction management, Hill International, has been awarded a one-year contract to project manage a new resort development in Abu Dhabi.

The development on Saadiyat Island will encompass 113,000 square metres and feature a hotel complex offering 293 rooms.

The contract was awarded by Sheikh Suroor Projects Department on behalf of H.H. Sheikh Suroor Bin Mohammed Al Nahyanis and is worth an estimated $1.9m to Hill International.

“Saadiyat Island will be an incredible destination for visitors to the region,” commented Mohammed Al Rais, Regional President (Middle East) for Hill’s Project Management Group.

“This new resort development for H.H. Sheikh Suroor will become one of the premier hospitality destinations on the island. We are very honoured to be part of this exciting project.”

The 27-square-kilometre Saadiyat Island is a flagship development of the Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC). The over-arching philosophy for development across the site is reportedly both environmentally sensitive and low-density.

Scheduled for completion in 2020, the island will feature a range of residential, leisure and commercial facilities as well as a world-class cultural district.

The cultural district is already home to art and culture venue, Manarat Al Saadiyat, as well as the UAE Pavillion (above) which was originally designed for the Shanghai World Expo 2010.

Eventually, it will be home to eight museums designed by renowned architects such as Jean Nouvel, Tadao Ando, Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid.

Hill International is already familiar with the island. The company is currently half way through a two-year contract managing the construction of the 374-room Rixos Saadiyat Island Hotel in a joint venture with Ehaf Consulting Engineers.

Recently ranked the eighth biggest construction management firm in the United States, Hill International employs 4,300 industry professionals in 100 offices worldwide. The company provides programme management, project management, construction management, construction claims and other consulting services primarily to the buildings, transportation, environmental, energy and industrial markets.
