California approves a further $3 million funding for Armenian American Museum

The Armenian American Museum (AAM) is a step closer to becoming a reality thanks to a further commitment of $3 million in funding from the California State Legislature.

This boosts the State’s overall funding for the project to $4 million.

A site for the museum has already been identified in Glendale. The museum’s concept design by Alajajian-Marcoosi Artchitects references natural rock formations typical of the Armenian landscape.

With a governing board representing ten key Armenian American organisations, AAM aims to promote wider understanding and appreciation of America’s ethnic and cultural diversity by sharing the Armenian American experience.

Providing an enriching and educational visitor experience, the museum hopes to empower individuals to embrace cultural diversity and speak out against prejudice.

Museum Governing Board Co-Chair, Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, said the board was honoured to have the State’s continued commitment, partnership, and support. He went on to describe the museum as an historic cultural and educaiton centre that will make all Californians proud.

AAM continues to work closely with City of Glendale officials on practicalities including traffic, parking, economic and environmental studies.
