Leading mobile technology company, Guru, is keeping queuing guests entertained at the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.

The largest rotating tramway in the world is a major draw, which results in long waiting times. In a bid to provide a richer guest experience, Guru was asked to develop an app that told the story of the historic attraction.

“Something that was very impressive to us was not only the quantity of the content that the Guru team created but the quality,” comments Greg Purdy, Public Affairs Manager of Palm Springs Aerial Tramway.

“There were things that we didn’t even know about that their research team discovered!”

Accessible and engaging content brings to life the rich history of the tram, as well as the ecology of its spectacular surroundings. Visitors on and off site can view 360-degree vistas via a Virtual Reality Lite experience.

App provides tramway team with valuable customer insights

What’s more, the app’s data dashboard gives the tram team valuable customer insights via metrics such as visitor paths and dwell times.

“It’s a very useful tool,” confirms Purdy. “The information that it provides is helping us as a business decide what we want to add to the tram experience.”

The attraction can also keep customers bang up to date with push notifications for special events, severe weather notifications, and changing opening hours.

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway takes visitors on a two and a half mile journey along the cliffs of Chino Canyon to the Mt. San Jacinto State Park. During the ten minute experience, the tram cars rotate slowly, affording panoramic views across the valley. At the top, which is located 8,514 feet above sea level, there are two restaurants, observation decks and a natural history museum.

Guru is a leader in providing mobile tools to help engage, educate and entertain. The company partners with museums, zoos and aquariums to create state-of-the-art solutions customised to each client’s needs.
