KidZania has started the gradual reopening process of several of its global attractions, as destinations worldwide begin the coronavirus recovery phase.

KidZania locations are interactive miniature cities for children, with a focus on learning about careers and managing money through educational and fun role play.

According to a press release, KidZania continues to learn and improve while adapting to the ‘new normal’ amid COVID-19.

KidZania Seoul and KidZania Busan, which closed in March, welcomed visitors again on April 6. KidZania Tokyo and KidZania Koshien reopened on June 1.

In the Middle East, KidZania Jeddah closed on March 9, following the advice of authorities in Saudi Arabia. The attraction reopened on June 21 with hygiene and social distancing measures.

KidZania Cairo, which closed on March 16, reopened on July 1 at 25 percent capacity and with the highest hygiene standards.

All of the above facilities have cooperated with their local governments and public health institutions to reopen. They have also implemented extensive health and safety measures.

These include reduced business hours, limited capacity in facilities, social distancing in queues and within attractions, continuous cleaning of common areas, and temperature screening.

Sadly, KidZania Singapore on Sentosa Island is now closing permanently. The company said it has struggled over the past few years, and then had to deal with the impact of COVID-19.

KidZania Singapore announced that it would not reopen in a Facebook post, which said that it has “had the joy of entertaining and education one million kids”.

“We thank you for joining and helping us build a billion memories,” it added.

A spokesperson for the Sentosa Development Corporation said that the company is aware of KidZania’s closure and plans to “refresh the premises with exciting new offerings”.

Blooloop previously spoke to KidZania creator and founder Xavier López Ancona about the remarkable growth of the edutainment brand.
