Dark Ride Railway Museum Utrecht Lagotronics

Lagotronics Projects, the media-based attractions specialist, has worked with the Railway Museum in Utrecht to upgrade its Stalen Monsters dark ride.

Lagotronics Projects has announced that it was commissioned to update the technology of the popular dark ride, Stalen Monsters, at Utrecht’s Railway Museum. This unique attraction runs on real train rails and has been a hit with visitors to the museum ever since it arrived 15 years ago. To give it a new lease of life, the company was asked to renew and optimize the total experience of the dark ride.

The museum aims to explore the link between the railways and society, preserving and managing railway-related heritage in the Netherlands and highlighting its role in technological and economic developments, in the past, present and future.

“In a very short time, we gave our dark ride Stalen Monsters a technical and experience upgrade,” says Jan Bergen, Head of Operation of the Railway Museum. “The project was a great collaboration between our own Technical Service and the specialists of Lagotronics Projects.

“The contact was pleasant and Lagotronics Projects clearly understood what was important to us: because we are a museum, we have to work in the immediate vicinity of unique collection items, and it is also important that the show elements are truthful. It was great that Lagotronics understood this very well. Both we and the visitors are very happy with the result!’’

The existing technical equipment for the dark ride was outdated, and the company decided to renew the entire show control and audio control. In addition to this, the special effects and lighting have also been overhauled and the attic partially renovated, to enhance the visitor experience.

The attraction now features a new storyline and an integrated quiz. Plus, the entrance and exit have also been adjusted to make them more eye-catching.

The entire lighting plan has been overhauled using energy-efficient RGB LED lighting to create atmosphere and allow for the mixing of colours. Guests are now also provided with information about the ride in an intermediate space. Full-colour prints have been installed in various spaces and some projections have been implemented.

Lagotronics Projects has also recently announced the launch of its new positioning system, designed specifically for indoor and outdoor leisure areas.
