Leisure Expert Group celebrates opening of DrageKongen coaster and Pirate's Food Market at Djurs Sommerland

Entertainment design and production company, Leisure Expert Group, is celebrating another phase in its 15-year masterplan for Djurs Sommerland.

Europe’s highest and fastest suspended family coaster, DrageKongen, opened earlier this month. Tomorrow sees the official opening of the Pirate’s Food Market.

Lesiure Expert Group has been working with the Danish theme park for the past four years. Initially, the company developed a phased masterplan for the expansion and renovation of the park.

The opening of the Intamin thrill ride DrageKongen (Dragon King) is a key stage in the expansion programme. Lesiure Expert Group worked in close partnership with Djurs Sommerland to provide the thematic design for the new ride. DrageKongen climbs to 30 metres before a breath-taking drop sends it into an 85km/h dive. The track is 825 metres long.

One of the challenges was to ensure that all the light, sound and special effects worked together with the coaster to add even more drama to the DrageKongen story. From flame wall light effects to sound reducing flags, the company precisely integrated every element to breath life into the ride experience.

Elsewhere in the park, Pirate’s Food Market completes the Pirate themed zone. The dining experience has been reimagined as a market taken over by pirates. Guests can choose from a variety of food including favourites such as spareribs and pancakes which they enjoy in a central seating area.

Leisure Expert Group provided the overall design, from the crow’s nest on the roof to the final details inside the restaurant.

Leisure Expert Group specialises in the design and production of immersive and engaging spaces and brand identities for the leisure, festival and event industry. Past projects include last October’s haunted houses for Europa Park’s gruesomely popular Halloween Horror Nights and concept design and brand identity for Insomniac as part of America’s biggest dance festival, EDC, in Las Vegas.
