Lappset Creative supplies Pirate Ship Playground for LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort, Bavaria

Lappset Creative, a leading provider of themed and branded activity attractions, has designed and supplied a Pirate Ship themed playground to LEGOLAND Deutschland Resort in Günzburg, Bavaria.

The new Pirate Ship themed play area is part of the new €26.6 million Pirate Island Hotel which opened to the public on 24 March this year.

The entire hotel and grounds have a pirate island theme, with the Pirate Ship play area as an eyecatching centrepiece.

Asko Alanen, Concept Manager at Lappset Creative said, “The design process went smoothly and the outcome was a good balance between functionality, play value, capacity and theming. The overall design fits excellently with the IP owners, Legoland’s requirements and the budget. Our technical design and manufacturing took about 12 weeks and the installation 3 weeks. The hand over was on the 2nd of February 2018. Legoland’s team did a great work and provided marvellous LEGO Pirates props/characters, which are now attached to the Pirate Ship’s bow.”

The Pirate Ship is 18.5 metres long, 16.5 metres wide and the mast height is 11.5 metres. The size of its sails is 40 square metres. The entire vessel weights about 10 tons.  The Skull Island is 8.3 metres long, 6.8 metres wide and 3.3 metres high.

Sustainable materials

Lappset Creative design and supply Pirate Ship wooden themed playground for LEGOLAND

The main material used for the themed outdoor play structure is pressure-treated and painted timber, Nordic PEFC certified pine, which has grown slowly in Finnish Lapland, home to Lappset.  This natural and ecologically sustainable material is very strong and durable natural.  The 11 metre high masts are made of powder coated steel with printed fabric sails.

Tero Puotiniemi, Lappset Creative’s Senior Concept Designer, said, “We selected and used the best materials for each use considering functionality, durability, visual design and safety.”

Lappset Creative recently announced a partnership with Merlin Entertainments to create themed soft play attractions aimed at the pre-school market.

In October 2017, LEGOLAND ® Billund announced a new LEGO ® castle themed Castle – Slotshotel – to be opened in 2019.
