LEGOLAND® Billund in Denmark is marking its 50th anniversary with a major expansion of LEGOREDO® Town.

Slated to open in 2018, one of the centrepiece attractions will be the brand new Flying Eagle (Den Flyvende Ørn) roller coaster.

Another will be the upgraded LEGO® Canoe ride, while the park entrance is also in line for an extensive update.

Work has already begun on the 2500m2 expansion of LEGOREDO Town.

“LEGOREDO is the epitome of the LEGOLAND nostalgia and is an area that should last for many, many years yet to come,” explains Managing Director of LEGOLAND, Christian Woller.

“This is why, for our 50th birthday, we want to renovate the dear old town, but we have chosen also to expand this particular area with yet another new LEGO themed activity.”

The Flying Eagle will propel guests through a dramatic Rocky Mountains-inspired landscape. The ride begins by soaring 11 metres up in the air past the top of Ørneklippen (The Eagle Rock). From here, riders can spy the eagle mother watch over her chicks in the large eyrie. Moments later, the riders swoop down past the lakes and the LEGO animals before coming to a gentle halt at the platform.

Extra focus on first impressions

According to Woller, the major upgrades planned for the park entrance intend to immerse visitors in the world of LEGO from the off:

“We want to give our guests the experience of being sucked into an overwhelming LEGO universe as soon as they arrive at the park, and that is why we are now giving extra focus to the first impressions,” he says.

“Children should have the feeling that the LEGO boxes at home in their room have grown to gigantic sizes, and that they are now standing in the middle of them.”

When the first guests approach the park at the start of next season, they will be greeted by the transformed entrance portal. Many of the facades will also have undergone a major, colourful makeover. One new addition certain to grab their attention will be a gigantic, red LEGO dinosaur ready to welcome guests as they enter the park.

Aside from the new entrance and LEGOREDO Town expansion, the park is also hoping to celebrate its birthday with a new world record.

Woller explains: “We are planning to beat the record and build the world’s tallest LEGO tower together with our guests in June when the LEGO Tower Event will be dropping by LEGOLAND.”
