The Great Lego Race VR coaster opens at Legoland Florida in March

News
The Great Lego Race. Legoland. Florida. VR coaster. Virtual reality.

Legoland Florida will launch The Great Lego Race, its new virtual reality roller coaster for kids, in March.

The Great Lego Race will open on March 23 at Legoland Florida Resort. It is the first virtual reality (VR) roller coaster designed specifically for kids and is the first VR theme park attraction to feature the Lego brand and characters.

Developed under the supervision of Merlin Magic Making, the global creative division of Merlin Entertainments, the VR coaster is also coming to Legoland parks in Germany and Malaysia. The Malaysia ride opened in November 2017 with the one in Germany expected to open this year.

The virtual environment is completely constructed from Lego bricks. The visuals have been created by Figment Productions and will sync with Mack Rides’ roller coaster’s twists, turns and drops using technology from VR Coaster.

The Great Lego Race places riders in a race against a pirate, wizard, surfer and pharaoh that takes place on the ground and in the air. Wearing the optional VR headsets, riders will experience action from every direction in the immersive, 360-degree experience.

The VR headsets are designed to fit both adults and children and the experience is intended for children aged six and over.
