Lucy ‘LuLu’ Buffett, the owner of three LuLu’s themed restaurants in the USA, is about to open a second Sky Trail ropes course.
The aerial attraction from Ropes Courses Incorporated (RCI) will debut in mid-February at Lulu’s North Myrtle Beach location in South Carolina. The waterfront restaurant at Barefoot Landing is known for its fun menu and beach/vacation-spirited merchandise. LuLu’s other sites are in Destin, Florida, and Gulf Shores, Alabama.
The tropical-themed 48-feet tall (14.6m) Sky Trail in North Myrtle Beach will be named LuLu’s Mountain of Youth. With its splashy colour scheme of hot pink, turquoise and yellow, it’s sure to catch the eye of diners.
“LuLu’s has always been about family,” explains Lulu Buffett. “When we added our first Sky Trail at the Gulf Shores location, it was wildly successful and complemented our mission to create a coastal dining and recreational experience for families. The kids get to play in a safe environment while the grown-ups have a drink, enjoy delicious fun food and listen to live music.”
RCI began installation of the multi-level attraction in December. This particular Sky Trail installation includes 26 elements to challenge children and adults. Among them are lily pad stepping stones and a tippy version of ‘walk the plank.’
A six-inch (15cm) wide beam features a colour wheel at the end. Participants who reach far enough can pull the hanging cable and set the spinning wheel in motion. Thrill-seekers who reach the top of the course have the option of taking a quick jump freefall exit. The three-story descent with a gentle landing delivers a breathtaking grand finale.
Every participant is outfitted in a harness equipped with a single redundant slingline. This keeps them secure while they work their way along the obstacles using RCI’s patented overhead tracking system.
Bucky Mabe of FACE Amusement, which will manage the Sky Trail at LuLu’s, says the ropes course provides “a fun and engaging experience that sets this restaurant complex apart from any in the greater Myrtle Beach community. After an exhilarating climb, you can enjoy fresh Gulf seafood in a fun and truly stunning restaurant, with a vibe only LuLu’s can provide.”
RCI has built ropes courses in 30 different countries – for a wide range of venues. These include amusement parks, zoos, hotels, resorts, cruise ships, shopping centres, community centres, adventure facilities and various other sites.
