Madame Tussauds in San Francisco is preparing to launch its first escape room and it will be themed on escaping from Alcatraz.
Alcatraz – The Breakout is based on the infamous 1962 escape from the prison. It is scheduled to launch at the Madame Tussauds located on Fisherman’s Wharf on 23 May.
A description of the games plot states: “Step back to 1962 and follow in the nefarious footsteps of three Alcatraz criminals, Clarence Anglin, John Anglin and Frank Morris, who escaped from America’s most notorious prison.
“Be cunning. Be brave. Be smart. Like them, you’ll need strategy to survive. You’ll also need to be ballsy as hell. Unlike them, you’ll only have 60 minutes to break out. Crack the code and solve the puzzles before the guards catch you.”
The game will include a familiar face for players who look out for it. A vintage Clint Eastwood styled and ready for his own prison-break will be displayed in his own cell.
Rogue Productions, the team behind the Time Run escape room in London, designed the experience for Madame Tussauds. It is suitable for groups of up to eight guests who are over the age of 12.
“We’re thrilled to open Madame Tussauds first escape room here in San Francisco,” said Dalia Goldgor, general manager of Madame Tussauds San Francisco.
“Inspired by real events and in the shadow of Alcatraz, our escape room, will be funny, educational and most of all, a total blast!”
The Madame Tussauds chain of attractions is part of the Midway division of Merlin Entertainments.
