Big Pineapple Queensland Seeking Inspiration for Redevelopment

The Big Pineapple, Queensland is set for a transformation.  The owners are currently looking at a food based, eco tourism, glamping resort but say they are open to ideas for a potential theme park.

Owners of the iconic attraction on Australia’s Sunshine Coast plan to redevelop the 162 ha site.  Their current plans are for a family fun park, glamping site, an RV park with walking trails and outdoor sport facilities.

Co-owner Peter Kendall said, “What we want to do is make a food-based and eco-tourism-based destination that incorporates the existing big pineapple, but adds other things … and has outlets for local produce.

“There’s rainforest on the land that would lend itself to eco-walks [and] we’ve talked about things like zip lining.”

The Big Pineapple’s annual music festival will remain a fixture and there are no plans to remove the animal hospital and train.

Kendall added that the attraction would be “very suitable for a theme park of some description as well but theme parks are typically run by large professional operators.

“So if an operator came forward and had a desire to build some sort of theme park there, we’d certainly been keen to do that.”

The public have been invited to provide input to the master plan.
