Quebec City’s Méga Parc is back with a new look following a CA$52 million (US$39m) revamp. The indoor park at the Galeries de la Capitale shopping mall is now filled with 18 rides and attractions including the first spokeless ferris wheel in North America and a Cloud Coaster from Extreme Engineering.

The project from mall developer Oxford Properties Group reopened on January 18 after more than a year of reconstruction. With its industrial meets Steampunk theme, Méga Parc promises a “very out of this world” experience.

“The Méga Parc offers an unbeatable and unique experience you won’t find anywhere else in Canada,” says Stéphan Landry, general manager of Galeries de la Capitale. “Locals are going to love this new entertainment offering. It will also be a big draw for tourists and people visiting the Québec City area, especially since it’s an indoor activity families can enjoy all year-round.”

The Méga Parc is  the largest indoor amusement park in the Québec province and second largest in Canada. It features 14 brand new attractions and four restored rides. The line-up includes:

  • Zénith (Larson spokeless Ferris wheel)
  • Télégraphe (Cloud Coaster by Extreme Engineering)
  • Electro (refurbished Mack Rides runaway train coaster)
  • Carrousel (Bertazzon)
  • Force G (Moser Rides)
  • Condor (Zamperla plane ride)
  • Convoyeur (Zamperla Speedway/whip)
  • Piston (SBF/Visa tower ride)
  • Pendule (SBF/Visa swing ride)
  • Express (SBF/Visa train ride)
  • Helix (SBF/Visa spinning cups)
  • Pare-Chocs (RDC spinning bumper cars)
  • Cortex (8-seat Triotech XD Dark Ride interactive theatre)

This 40 feet (12.2m) high suspended Cloud Coaster runs right through the spokeless ferris wheel. The park also features the Patinarium, a 750ft (230m) ice skating circuit that runs through the park and is the longest indoor skating trail in Canada.

In addition, there is the Mini-Mousse amusement park for toddlers, which includes a selection of play equipment from iPlayCo, arcade machines and three party/event rooms. Furthermore, state-of-the-art lighting and sound, a giant screen and water fountain will provide dazzling displays to captivate Méga Parc’s visitors.

Entertainment and the changing face of retail

“Retail is changing,” says Bradley Jones of Oxford Properties Group. “The mall is no longer simply just a place to shop but a destination to enjoy world-class experiences across fashion, food and entertainment that can’t be recreated online.”

Visitors to the Galeries de la Capitale mall will have an even longer period to enjoy the new Méga Parc thanks to its extended opening hours. It is now open Monday to Wednesday from 11am – 9pm, Thursday and Friday 10am – 10pm, Saturday 9am – 7pm and Sunday 10am – 6pm. In summer, it will stay open until 9pm on Saturdays. The entire park can also be rented for corporate events.
