Green energy supplier Ecotricity will supply electricity to Merlin attractions in a new year-long supply deal with Merlin Entertainments UK.
Ecotricity will provide 100% renewable energy from the wind and the sun to Merlin attractions including Alton Towers, Chessington World of Adventure and Thorpe Park, alongside LEGOLAND® Windsor Resort, The Coca-Cola London Eye, Madame Tussauds and SEA LIFE Centres.
Ecotricity will also support Merlin’s sustainability and procurement specialists as they investigate building their own green energy generation and storage assets at a number of its locations.

John Butcher, Merlin’s group procurement director, said: “Going green needn’t cost the earth. Working with Ecotricity we are showing we can save money and reduce our impact on the planet by buying our electricity from renewable sources.
“This is a significant step forward in making our business more sustainable, while we look further forward and assess the viability of increasing the amount of power we generate ourselves, helping reduce our carbon footprint and energy costs further.”
The Walt Disney Company will open a 50-megawatt solar power facility at its Florida resort before the end of 2018. The facility will generate enough renewable solar energy to fully power two of its four parks.
Six Flags also revealed plans to power two further parks in California – Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and Six Flags Magic Mountain – almost entirely by solar energy.
