Merlin Entertainments has announced the reopening date for its leading attractions in London, including the London Eye, SEA LIFE London Aquarium, Madame Tussauds, the London Dungeon and Shrek’s Adventure! London.
Merlin is reopening its attractions with enhanced hygiene and safety measures, including reduced capacity, pre-booking tickets online, and cashless payments.
Merlin’s employees have undergone rigorous training in order to uphold new safety measures when attractions reopen on August 1.
“We are delighted to confirm that all our London attractions will reopen on Saturday, August 1,” said Sunny Jouhal, general manager at the London Eye. “The health and safety of our guests and team is always our number one priority.
“We have been working hard behind the scenes to reopen with the memorable and exciting experiences we are known for, delivered in the safest possible way.
“We fully recognise, along with many other businesses, that after months of closure the London tourism sector has a long road to recovery ahead of it.
“As we start to welcome guests back through the doors, and get back to what we do best, we ask the government to continue supporting our industry and working with us to get the capital back on its feet,” added Jouhal.
Health and safety measures at Merlin attractions
- Reduced capacity to ensure social distancing
- All guests must pre-book tickets and a time slot online before visiting
- There will be clear social distancing markers and signage
- Socially distanced temperature checks are required for all guests and staff before entry
- There will be enhanced cleaning procedures, hygiene stations and hand sanitiser
- All attractions will be cashless
- New hygiene screens have been installed at service counters
- All team members will wear face masks or appropriate PPE
- Live shows and meet-and-greet experiences will be limited or closed
Guests over the age of 11 visiting the London Eye, The London Dungeon and Shrek’s Adventure! London are required to bring and wear a face mask.
Guests over the age of 11 visiting Madame Tussauds London and SEA LIFE London Aquarium will be encouraged to bring and wear their own face mask.
Merlin recently launched the SOS London campaign at the London Eye, calling on the UK government to save tourism, organise campaigns and support the industry during the coronavirus crisis.
The company also applauded Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s announcement to cut VAT on hospitality, including theme parks and attractions, from 20 percent to 5 percent.
