Met Opera launches free live streams amid COVID-19

The Metropolitan Opera has cancelled performances due to concerns over the coronavirus outbreak, and is streaming encore Live in HD presentations for its ‘Nightly Met Opera Stream’.

The Met Opera will be streaming encore presentations from the award-winning Live in HD series of cinema transmissions on its website amid COVID-19.

The new offering kicked off this week with the 2010 HD performance of Bizet’s Carmen, starring ElÄ«na Garanča and Roberto Alagna.

‘Nightly Met Opera Streams’ start at 7.30pm EDT and will be available on the website for 20 hours, and on all Met Opera and on-demand apps.

“Weā€™d like to provide some grand opera solace to opera lovers in these extraordinarily difficult times,” said Met Opera general manager Peter Gelb.

“Every night, weā€™ll be offering a different complete operatic gem from our collection of HD presentations from the past 14 years.”

Tuesday, March 17 ā€“ Pucciniā€™s La BohĆØme, transmitted live on April 5, 2008.

Wednesday, March 18 ā€“ Verdiā€™s Il Trovatore, transmitted live on October 3, 2015.

Thursday, March 19 ā€“ Verdiā€™s La Traviata, transmitted live on December 15, 2018.

Friday, March 20 ā€“ Donizettiā€™s La Fille du RĆ©giment, transmitted live in April 26, 2008.

Saturday, March 21 ā€“ Donizettiā€™s Lucia di Lammermoor, transmitted live on February 7, 2009.

Sunday, March 22 ā€“ Tchaikovskyā€™s Eugene Onegin, transmitted live on February 24, 2007.
