Disney has teased the new marquee for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. The ride debuts on March 4 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort.

Ahead of the opening, Disney Imagineers are busy fine-tuning Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, the first ride-through attraction based on Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Located in the Chinese Theatre at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the family-friendly ride takes visitors inside a cartoon short where they join Mickey, Minnie and Goofy.

Crews have now installed the Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway sign, which features blinking bulbs and animated neon versions of Mickey and Minnie.

In the video, which you can watch below, Walt Disney Imagineering art director Phillip Hillis explains: “This marquee is so important to this attraction because this is Mickey and Minnie’s first attraction.

“We want to make sure that we’re providing an amazing marquee that really celebrates their entrance into a great attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.”

Guests will arrive at the Chinese Theatre “for a premiere of Mickey and Minnie’s Perfect Picnic, the brand new Mickey short that will be premiering”.

“We knew from the beginning that we wanted a neon Mickey and Minnie,” said Hillis. “We wanted to continue this look of neon all the way down Hollywood Boulevard, but really create this marquee as a beacon that you’re guided to.

“I love neon, I love that we have designed this in a way that is uniquely tied to the history of Hollywood and Hollywood Boulevard and that feeling of the golden age of cinema.”

Runaway Railway is part of a larger transformation of Walt Disney World, which includes the Mickey Shorts Theater in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will open in Mickey’s Toontown at California’s Disneyland in 2022.
