Disney has shared a special look at Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, a new ride-through attraction heading to both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.
The new ride was teased during the Disney Channel holiday special, called ‘Disney Channel Holiday Party @ Walt Disney World’.
Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is launching at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida on March 4, 2020 and at Disneyland in California in 2022.
It will be the first Disney ride-through attraction featuring Mickey and Minnie Mouse, with guests feeling like they’re inside a cartoon.
Disney Channel shares first look of Runaway Railway
The first-look video, which you can watch above, was hosted by Disney Channel’s ‘ZOMBIES 2’ stars Meg Donnelly and Milo Manheim.
Speaking in the video, Charita Carter, Walt Disney Imagineer, says: “This is the very first ride-through attraction for Mickey and Minnie, a ride for all ages.
“As we know, the Mickey shorts are so fun. They’ve got these vibrant environments, and it was so important to us to make sure we were delivering on that and a dimensional environment for our guests.”
She adds: “The very first Mickey cartoon was ‘Steamboat Willie’. Well, the tri-tone whistle that was used for the steamboat is actually used for this locomotive.”
Ride will feature a nod to Steamboat Willie
Runaway Railway is part of a larger transformation of Walt Disney World, which includes the Mickey Shorts Theater in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Mickey Shorts Theater, opening in March 2020, will play an original short film in the style of the Disney Channel animated series ‘Mickey Mouse’.
Walt Disney Imagineering also recently announced that Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will debut in 2021 at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
Meanwhile, Cirque du Soleil has unveiled the name and premiere date of Drawn to Life, the new production opening at Walt Disney World Resort’s Disney Springs in April 2020.
