Moonraker VFX Ltd., the award-winning UK-based VFX studio, has secured major funding from Creative England to produce immersive 3D content for museums and planetariums.

Moonraker VFX is pleased to announce that is has been given half a million pounds in funding from Creative England, in order to create original and immersive 3D content for a range of cultural organisations across the globe.

The company has been a part of many successful partnerships with museums and attractions, such as the Fram Museum in Oslo which recently won a Thea Award. The funding will allow Moonraker to build on this by producing its own content for science museums and planetariums.

Moonraker Originals

The company plans to use the funding to produce ‘Moonraker Originals’, an IMAX film that will immerse the audience in stunning visuals, making them feel a part of environments such as deep space or erupting volcanos.

Simon Clarke, Creative Director at Moonraker, says: “As a VFX studio, we have the technical tools and expertise to realise moving images that are often hard to capture in camera. This gives us an edge to take the audiences to worlds they could never imagine – so why not package this with a great story into our own film.”

Moonraker will use its experience in the field of natural history and science documentaries to create a film that is both entertaining and that has scientific value. It will be designed to appear on digital education platforms as well as linking to the science curriculum.

The project is expected to take two years and will initially be created for the big screen, however, the company will also look to create spin-offs in future for TV, augmented reality and Flying Theatre formats.

The mission of Creative England is to empower creative companies in the UK and the funding provided will help Moonraker achieve its ambitions. The organisation will have significant input during the project.

“We’re delighted to be working with Creative England on this project,” says Jon Grafton, Managing Director of Moonraker. “They will be highly invested and proactive in helping us move forward and will be important partners on the journey.”

Clarke adds: “This is a hugely exciting time for Moonraker and the funding by Creative England is a real opportunity for us to drive forward our own original content and have a lot more creative and editorial control.”

“Not only will this project create ongoing revenue as we create licensable 3D content for theatres across the globe, but the films will act as a brilliant piece of marketing as we look to expand global awareness of the Moonraker brand.”

The Moonraker team is based in Bristol, UK, and creates visual effects content for TV, film, commercials, museums and visitor attractions.
