Mount vernon New York arts and culture master plan request for proposals

The city of Mount Vernon in New York is seeking a consultancy firm to develop a citywide arts and culture master plan.

The Mount Vernon Urban Renewal Agency has issued a request for proposals from firms with experience in cultural planning.

The agency wants the master plan to create “a common vision for the role that arts and culture should play in the City of Mount Vernon, as well as to ascertain what aspects of that vision can guide policy and programming to enhance the quality of life for Mount Vernon residents, businesses and visitors”.

The plan should include initiatives to upgrade and enhance Mount Vernon’s existing arts and cultural infrastructure through the analysis of data and national trends as well as the development of a public participation plan.

“A community-wide multilingual public participation program is an essential component to creating a widely accepted Arts and Culture Master Plan,” the project overview states.

“Specifically, the master plan will reflect the community’s desire to utilise arts and culture to enhance the sense of community, enhance economic vitality that is linked to arts and culture, create and support an environment where arts and culture thrive and enrich the community culturally, aesthetically, educationally, and economically.”

Proposals, including qualifications, should be submitted by 14 March 2018. The chosen consultant will be expected to complete the study and submit their final report by 6 June 2018.

Mount Vernon is an 11.3sqkm suburb of New York City.
