The Museum of Future Experiences (MoFE), a virtual reality pop-up museum, has opened in New York. The immersive experience offers guests a haunting look inward.

MoFE is a fully immersive, multi-sensory experience that uses immersive theatre, psychology, virtual reality (VR), and the psyche of visitors themselves.

The attraction, which is running until the end of August, invites guests to wear virtual reality Oculus S headsets, before revealing an alternate universe based on their hopes, dreams, and fears.

First, however, visitors are quizzed about their thoughts and desires. Why? Because their answers will reveal their subconscious, and shape the personalised content they’ll see.

In groups of six or fewer, guests are guided through a “cerebral exploration”, which lasts for 60 minutes. The experience includes individual analysis, audio-visual stimulation, and dreamlike VR curated to visitors’ inner being.

According to the MoFE website, guests will go on an “awe-inspiring trip” brought on by technology, with perceptions suspended and a chance to “reflect on the subconscious and feel the overwhelming thrill of having a hole bored through your head”.

The website also warns that side effects could include “heightened sensitivity, intense connectivity, and an acute sense of openness”.

The Museum of Future Experiences hopes to expand to other major US cities in the future.

In South Korea, SK Telecom’s experiential, interactive technology museum, called T.um, features augmented reality (AR), virtual reality, artificial intelligence (AI), hologram technology and 5G.

Blooloop previously detailed six attraction technology trends for this year, including voice activation, bots and AI, as well as AR and VR. We also compiled five VR experiences currently entertaining visitors.
