News

Leading leisure park operator, Parques Reunidos, Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) and intu, the UK’s leading owner, manager and developer of prime regional shopping centre, are together planning to develop a Nickelodeon-themed indoor family entertainment centre in one of the UK’s major shopping centres.

The 50, 000ft² FEC is scheduled to open in 2018 at intu Lakeside, located on the outskirts of London.

The new attraction is being described as highly interactive with a number of adventure zones, featuring popular Nickelodeon characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants, Dora the Explorer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, PAW Patrol and The Fairly OddParents.

It will also include a dedicated food and beverage offering and a Nickelodeon shop.

Martin Breeden, Development Director at intu, said the new venture was the next phase in the company’s masterplan for intu Lakeside, which currently attracts 23 million visitors a year:

“This partnership will see us take our first step in creating a new and compelling leisure experience that lasts from early morning through to late evening.”

“Shopping centres have evolved into spaces where families spend time together and Parques Reunidos shares intu’s vision of transforming the experiences lived in these centres to make them into wonderful memories, ” added Fernando Eiroa, CEO of Parques Reunidos.

Parques Reunidos operates 55 facilities in the Americas and Europe including theme parks, animal parks, water parks and FECs.  Total visitor numbers are reportedly 20 million visitors a year.

Gerald Raines, Senior Vice President, Global Recreation for Viacom International Media Networks: “Family Entertainment Centres are an important element of Nickelodeon’s recreation strategy – and Parques Reunidos is a longstanding partner across our recreation offerings.

“Our goal at Nickelodeon is to be everywhere kids are.”
