Paragon’s Orb at York Minster Wins Design Award

News

The Orb at York Minster was named winner of the ‘Landscape/the Public Realm – including Urban Design’ award at the 2014 York Design Awards.  The awards recognise excellence in design and conservation.

Paragon designed, built and installed The Orb in 2012.  The structure, made up of 3, 000 components, took more than two months to detail design and manufacture.

The Orb offers a unique opportunity for visitors to see close too some of the world’s most important medieval stained glass.  Five pieces of restored stained glass panels are exhibited, with a panel changed monthly so that visitors can follow the restoration work on the Great East Window.  In addition to the panels the Orb also contains interactive galleries within the 10m x 3m space.
