Ocean Kingdom marks 8th PGAV Destinations project to receive Thea Award.

Chimelong Ocean Kingdom will be honoured with the Themed Entertainment Association’s (TEA) Thea Award for Outstanding Achievement this weekend at the 21st annual Thea Awards Gala & TEA Summit at Disneyland Resort.

“Chimelong Ocean Kingdom raises the bar for other Chinese park developers and demonstrates how much can be achieved with a combination of Western design and Chinese execution, ” said Steve Birket, TEA president. “[The park] is distinguished by its uplifting message of unity and diversity, its pioneering East-West collaboration.”

The newest addition to Asia’s top theme parks such as Hong Kong Disneyland and Universal Studios Singapore marks the eighth destination designed by PGAV Destinations to receive a Thea Award. The other award-winning destinations include:

“Being associated with this Thea is special, as it represents success in the new context of China, ” says Al Cross, PGAV Destinations VP and project lead. “Other Theas that include our work similarly recognized innovation and boldness. We are incredibly happy for Chimelong, and we are certain that Ocean Kingdom simply marks the beginning of a bold future for Chimelong throughout China.”

St. Louis-based consulting and design firm PGAV Destinations served as the product strategist, master planner, lead design consultant, and lead designer of the 125-acre (50 ha.) attraction on Henquin Island near Macao. Ocean Kingdom took three years to construct, and features seven unique areas, each themed around a different part of the world’s waterways, merging themed rides and animal habitats through innovative ways.
