PortAventura Entertainment S.A.U. has signed an agreement with Ferrari to build a 100 million euro Ferrari Land theme park.
Set to open in 2016, the 75, 000 square metre theme park will be built inside the PortAventura resort and theme park near Barcelona.
Ferrari Land will feature Europe’s highest and fastest vertical accelerator as well as the first Ferrari-themed five-star hotel which will include 250 rooms and a driving simulator.
According to a report in the Financial Times, Ferrari will receive both fixed and variable fees for the development which is expected to bring in an additional 500, 000 visitors a year. Ferrari have recently scaled back production in order to maintain the exclusivity of their luxury cars and in addition to Ferrari Land in Spain, are looking at a possible third theme park in Asia.
Andrea Perrone, managing director of Ferrari’s has commented on the new theme park, saying, "After the successful experience of the Abu Dhabi Ferrari World we have received numerous requests to launch new Ferrari theme parks. After a thorough selection process, we have selected Investindustrial’s solid project backed by skilled and experienced people and the opportunity to bring the Ferrari allure in Spain where there are a lot of supporters and fans including a lot of tourists attracted also by the PortAventura destination resort.
