Work has begun on the first new Las Vegas Strip casino resort in nearly a decade. With its latest international Resorts World offering, the Malaysian-based Genting Group is targetting high-rolling Chinese tourists.
“China is one of the world’s most important trade partners, spreading not just goods but Chinese cuisine and culture to all corners of the world,” notes a statement from the Genting Group. “Chinese outbound tourism topped 100 million for the first time in 2014, and Resorts World Las Vegas’ (RWLV) authentic Chinese theme will resonate with domestic and international tourists.”
Ground was broken on the integrated resort development in early May. When it opens, it will feature over 100,000 square feet of gaming space and three hotels. Guests will also be able to enjoy multiple restaurants featuring a variety of authentic regional Chinese cuisines, plus numerous retail offerings and a “top-tier” nightlife venue. Additional details on amenities being offered will be released over the coming 12 months.
Jiang Daily had suggested a panda exhibit, aquarium and indoor water park might be among earlier plans. In addition, the Chinese news outlet reports that opening could be pushed back to 2020, although Genting said earlier this month that completion is set for mid-2018. Other major new developments coming to the north end of the Las Vegas Strip include Wynn Paradise Park.
Over the course of construction, it is estimated Resorts World Las Vegas will create more than 30,000 person-years of direct/indirect employment. That’s one person employed for one year. Once in operation, the resort is predicted to sustain over 13,000 direct and indirect jobs.
“After 50 years of developing integrated resorts all around the globe, we are thrilled to be breaking ground on the Las Vegas Strip,” says KT Lim, Genting Group chairman and CEO. “Las Vegas is known for its world-renowned resorts. The Genting looks forward to being a part of the city’s continued growth with this Chinese themed world-class resort.”
“Not since the 1950s has there been the amount of development that we are currently seeing on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip,” notes Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani. “Resorts World Las Vegas is positioned to be the centerpiece of this exciting growth. The Genting Group is poised to create a truly special international destination. On behalf of Clark County, we wish them much success.”
Gaming industry veteran Edward Farrell has been appointed president of Resorts World Las Vegas, it was announced recently.
