Hype, a triple launch roller coaster designed and manufactured by Premier Rides, is taking shape at Särkänniemi Amusement Park, Tampere, Finland.
Hype is the first new roller coaster at Särkänniemi in nearly a decade, and is the largest investment in the park’s history.
Premier Rides has created the high-tech, triple-launched coaster experience which will be the first in the Nordic region. The Baltimore based company is now onsite helping build the ride in average high temperatures ranging from -10º to -8º Celcius (14º – 18º Fahrenheit).
Miikka Seppälä, Managing Director of Särkänniemi said, “We selected Premier Rides because we wanted to make a major statement and to create a signature experience at Särkänniemi Theme Park that will be appreciated by our loyal guests. Hype is just that. The collaboration with Premier Rides has allowed us to produce something that will be truly iconic for the park.”
Seppälä said that the new coaster “helps make Särkänniemi a true destination theme park and the ride an icon in the city of Tampere.”
Ville Aarresuo, Director of Development at Särkänniemi added, “Hype represents the world’s current trend in amusement parks: speed, acceleration, and impressive look. Because of this it will be one of the most interesting landmarks in our region.”
Hype is based on the award-winning SUPERMAN Ultimate Flight located at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, California. Hype benefits from the most advanced launch system technology available in the industry today.
The thrill ride begins as riders are shot out of the station up to a height of 15 meters. Gravity pulls them back down into the station where the guests are then launched backwards up to a height of 30 meters. Again gravity brings the train back into the station for the third and final energized launch, shooting riders up a vertical twisting track to the highest point on the ride from where a slow roll places the guests upside down approximately 50 meters in the air – a record for the Nordic Region.
Riders then enter a face-first vertical drop, ending in a twisting loop where they will experience exciting Gs. They then drop back to ground level where the train once more shoots through the station and then is smoothly braked to a stop using magnetic technology.
With the exception of the coaster train itself, there are virtually no moving parts on the ride resulting in a very reliable attraction with low maintenance requirements.
