Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) is set to start work on four new tourist attractions in Khor Fakkan, Kalba, Al Dhaid and Mleiha.

The attractions, which include a safari retreat, eco-tourism resort and water park, are located across Sharjah, the third largest and most populous city in the UAE.

They are part of plans to open up more of the city to tourists, especially the eastern and central regions, which have “massive untapped potential in the travel and leisure sectors”, said Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, executive chairman of Shurooq (via The National).

The UAE aims to transform Sharjah into a hub of nature-inspired experiences to boost its tourism appeal for both overseas travellers and residents.

Khor Fakkan Beach, located on the east coast of the UAE, will boast the region’s first water park, as well as an amphitheatre, skating rink, sports courts, picnic areas and children’s play area.

The water park will be part of a family-friendly hotel with 66 rooms, and another Chedi Hotel offering luxury accommodation is set to open in 2021.

The Seih Al Bardi Kabeer Safari Park, which will feature a family-friendly hotel, is opening in Sharjah’s Al Dhaid region.

Sharjah’s first safari park will be located within the Elebriddi Wildlife Protected Area and is being developed in partnership with the Environment and Protected Areas Authority.

The park will house up to 50,000 native and imported animals, and guests of the hotel will enjoy views of springboks, impalas, wildebeest, giraffes and rhinos.

Kalba Waterfront, located close to the border with Oman, is already in development and will feature a mall with views of the lagoon, a huge park, outdoor shopping promenade, al fresco waterfront dining, children’s play zone, and luxury hotel.

Finally, The Moon Resort will open in Mlehia by the end of 2020. It will be an eco-tourism resort in a family-friendly desert haven with stargazing opportunities.
