Designed to catch the eye of passers-by, the ScreenFLITE media information system from Simtec Systems has won a Red Dot Award for product design.

According to the German company, which also builds motion bases and media-based ride systems: “What used to be a mere message moving across a static LED-board now is perceived as part of a work of art.”

Ideally suited to transport terminals, shopping malls, hotel or museum lobbies, ScreenFLITE can be suspended from an arm or mounted as a standalone display in the middle of a hall. The video below shows a 12 screen, four-sided system in use at Rome’s Fiumicino airport.

The rotating bank of LED screens can be configured in groups of two, three, four or six. Media content (static or video) is programmed individually for each screen or as one harmonious display. Visibility of messages is provided from all sides.

The Red Dot Award: Production Design is one of the world’s largest design competitions. This year alone, more than 5,500 products were entered from designers and manufacturers in 55 countries. Winners were selected by an international jury.

Simtec Systems will officially celebrate its win during an awards ceremony on July 8 at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany. On the night, a ScreenFLITE display will be featured alongside all other award-winning products in a ‘Design on Stage’ exhibition.
