Six Flags CEO Michael Spanos is hoping to reopen its parks in mid-May after they closed in March because of the coronavirus pandemic.
In a conference call on April 30, Spanos said that six parks have been targeted to reopen first. These are Six Flags over Georgia, Six Flags St Louis, Frontier City, Six Flags Over Texas, Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Six Flags Mexico, reports Newsweek.
Slowly reopening theme parks
In this call with analysts, Spanos said that “When you look at what’s going on with the states, it would suggest that we should be staying close to Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, Missouri, and Mexico”.
However, he notes that “time will tell” if reopening these parks this soon will be possible. Although Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas have multiple Six Flags parks, it appears that only half of them will reopen at first.
Once these parks reopen, there will be strict safety precautions in place, including visitors wearing face masks and undergoing temperature checks upon entry.
Social distancing in place
Social distancing measures will also be in place throught the park, with markers on the floor helping them remain apart. Fewer visitors will be allowed onto rides, and virtual queuing is being tested. It should be available in a few months.
Extra cleaning procedures will be put into place, with hand sanitiser available throughout the park. Furthermore, cashless payments and mobile ordering will be in place to reduce contact between visitors and staff.
Advance reservations necessary
On the Six Flags websites, a notice informs visitors that everyone, including Pass Holders and Members, will have to make advance reservations.
This is to ensure the park can meet social distancing guidelines from the state. More details will be available in the future.
Six Flags recently released its Q1 earnings for 2020 which showed a decrease in revenue because of the parks’s sudden closure. The company also said that it is working with season pass holders to extend their usage privileges.
