Sloan Museum of Discovery is undergoing a $26 million renovation and expansion to include more activities for children and interactive exhibits for visitors.
Sloan Museum in Flint, Michigan is currently open at Courtland Center Mall while the Flint Cultural Center location is closed for renovation.
As part of the expansion, the Sloan Museum of Discovery will build an education work room and education learning labs, and add new exhibit galleries dedicated to science, early childhood, history and vehicles.
In the Early Childhood Gallery, young guests will explore, play, and learn in their own child-sized community, which will include homes, gardens and garages, as well as an ambulance and hospital.
Education learning labs and new exhibit galleries
Visitors can explore science through interactive experiences and exhibits at the Discovery Hall, which will boast a multi-storey Spaceship Earth climbing exhibit, the Maker Lab, and H2Ohhhh! – a series of water exhibits and tables.
The Vehicle City Gallery will feature some of the museum’s vehicle collection and future automotive technology, also with rotating exhibits about the history and future of cars.
The redesigned History Gallery will be comprised of immersive and interactive exhibits, objects and stories depicting the history of Flint and Genesee County.
The Sloan Museum of Discovery will also add two fully accessible entrances and a café, and is scheduled to reopen in 2021 after a groundbreaking ceremony in June.
Science, early childhood, history and vehicles
Elsewhere, Explorations V Children’s Museum has unveiled its second major expansion as it prepares to relocate to Bonnet Springs Park in 2021 for a children’s museum that redefines informal learning.
And, Emaar Entertainment has announced the opening of KidZania Abu Dhabi in Yas Mall. The new edutainment attraction follows the success of KidZania in The Dubai Mall, and marks the expansion of KidZania in the UAE.
